My course work allowed my knowledge to expand and my experiences to grow. Learning more about important topics in classes I have taken has taught me new information, strengthened my interaction skills, and broadened my knowledge on the development and health of all individuals. Applying my learnings will allow me to better perform in my career as an Academic Advisor.

Professional Development and Ethics
This course prepared me to be more professional in a workplace, how to properly present myself, and create a wells structured Resume and ePortfolio. A project i completed during this class that helped better prepare for my dream career was a news flyer displaying information about Academic Advising. This project revealed important information about the career and provided a detailed insight of what a typical day looks like. Creating a news flyer such as this also helped me expand my experience with displaying information to an audience which will be beneficial in my career as I will have the responsibility of displaying curriculum information to students regarding the major of their choice.

Family Communication in Early Care
This course taught me the basic strategies for how to conduct an effective and appropriate meeting while relaying important information. Conducting meetings and guiding students is an important role for an Academic Advisor and this course helped prepare me for meetings that will occur on a daily basis. During this course I was also taught how to appropriately listen and respond to concerned students and parents. Although this course was directed towards early education, there were many important topics that can relate to my job as an Academic Advisor such as how to properly email students and parents, how to conduct meetings, and how to properly relay information.

Lifespan Development

This course helped me become more familiar with the human lifespan, how people interact with one another, reasons for certain behavior or mental thoughts and how to properly respond during certain situations. Learning more about these topics will help me excel in my career as I have knowledge of how to respond to students and what resources will better accommodate them.

Fundamentals of Public Speaking
During this course, I was able to learn the importance of public speaking, proper speech preparation, and ways to have a strong and informative speech. A public speaking assignment that better prepared me for my career as an Academic Advisor was my persuasive speech. During this assignment, I was required to complete a speech outline, displaying the information I wanted to say during my speech, the order I planned to present it and what ways I could persuade my audience. Informing my audience about a career such as this, gave me experience with displaying important and interesting facts about a career, which is a very important role of an Academic Advisor. This assignment taught me the importance of planning and outlining a speech before hand. Having experience speaking to a large group of people will allow me to present myself in a professional manner and have well-constructed meetings with students during an advising appointment.
