Volunteer work is a great way to become connected with the community and help others. BigHouse, an organization that provides foster families with resources and relationships, provided me with a life changing experience.
 
While volunteering at BigHouse, I had the privilege of sorting clothes into their prospective bins based on size and season it was appropriate for. After sorting through several bags of clothes, I tagged each clothing item and hung them in the correct closet.
 
During this experience, I was not only able to learn the important steps and hard work it takes to operate such a great organization, but I also learned the importance of connecting with others while working to complete a task. Having a part in children and young adults' lives is such a special experience and is the reason I look forward to working as an Academic Advisor. This volunteer experience taught me the importance of helping the people around me and why I always want to make an effort to be a support system to the students and people around me.
 
BigHouse not only provides people with the essential clothing, but also provided me with a life changing experience.
